MY SECRET MOTHER:
an adoptee speaks to the girls who went away
I know why I wrote this book: it was in response to a book that I read that had a profound influence on my outlook as an adoptee. I will be forever grateful to Ann Fessler for researching and writing "The Girls Who Went Away" 978-1594200946 - a consequence of her own search for her birth mother.
MY SECRET MOTHER sat in a file on my computer for several years before I found the courage to release it. The results have been encouraging, heart-wrenching, heart-warming, surprising and gratifying as I read the emails of readers.
This is a very personal journey that still has no conclusion and I remain in conflict about the advisability of releasing it, however that's a selfish point of view based on baring my soul to the world. Apparently the book has touched a chord amongst adoptees and birth mothers alike and that gives me great comfort and joy.
If you wish to send me a message after reading it, I will not make it public unless you expressly tell me that I can. I applaud the courage, love and daily battle engaged by mothers everywhere.
